🎨 How to color it

Color the tree trunk soft birch brown, the snowy hill pale blue, and the big snowflakes icy lavender with tiny sky-blue centers. Use chunky crayons or washable markers for the wide trunk and hill, then help with the snowflakes by coloring each arm from the middle outward. For a playful twist, make every other snowflake a different cool color so the storm looks like it is giggling around the branches.

The story behind this coloring page

Quill’s Snowflake Switcheroo — Every day, Quill counted snowflakes as they landed on his bare branches: plip on the left twig, puff on the right, hush on the hill. Read the full story →

Every day, Quill counted snowflakes as they landed on his bare branches: plip on the left twig, puff on the right, hush on the hill. He wanted a better game than counting, so he invented Snowflake Switcheroo. “If I wiggle, you swap!” he called, and the flakes spun like tiny white pinwheels in the cold, tickly air.

Until one day, Quill gave three wiggles instead of one. Because of that, the small flakes chased the big flakes. Because of THAT, the big flakes tried to hide under his lowest branches, bumping and whispering, shiff-shaff-shoo. The hill began wearing snow in stripes, dots, and one silly mustache. Finally, Quill stamped his roots and shouted, “Freeze where you please!” The flakes stopped at once, pleased with their ridiculous places. Next time you see the bare tree with snow all around, can you spot which flakes are still playing Snowflake Switcheroo?
