🎨 How to color it

Color the two bear hikers honey brown, the THOMAS letters bright red and blue, the stone bridge warm gray, and the river clear turquoise. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big letters and bears, then switch to a sharper pencil for the tiny compass needle, boot laces, fish, and brick lines. Try making each star on Thomas’s name yellow, as if the bridge sign is sparkling in the mountain sun.

The story behind this coloring page

Every morning, Thomas tapped his dad’s little compass twice—click, click—then carried it to the bridge to watch hikers cross the rushing river. He liked the cool metal circle in his palm because Dad had used it on his first mountain trail. One breezy morning, a pair of bear cubs hurried up, waving and puffing, “Our boots ran away!” Sure enough, two muddy boots sat on the wrong path, and the river below went swish-swash, loud as a drum.

Because of that, Thomas had to step past his usual bridge post. Because of THAT, the compass spun near the stone arch, pointing not north but toward a narrow grassy bend where boot prints dotted the dirt. Thomas swallowed, followed the needle, and found the lost trail before the cubs missed the sunset hike. Next time you spot the tiny compass by the big bridge, listen for Thomas tapping it twice—click, click.
