Above the hushy quilt sky, Nora tugged her red nightcap low and patted the cloud for the bedtime hum. Nothing answered but a soft puff-puff and the cottony smell of moon fog. Without the hum, the small stars blinked too fast, and the crescent moons rocked out of time.
Nora lifted one striped corner of the quilt-cloud, where nobody ever looked. Tucked beneath it was a tiny silver music note, shivering like a spoon in warm milk. “You belong up here,” Nora whispered. The note hopped into the air—plink!—and more notes followed, gentle and round.
Ever since, bedtime songs drift between the stars because Nora found the hidden first note under the quilt. Next time you see her peeking over the cloud, can you spot the music floating home?
