🎨 How to color it

Color the large compass star icy blue, the thick-lined constellation golden yellow, the origami bear slate gray, and the small compass circle copper. Use sharp colored pencils for the skinny rays, dotted guide lines, and tiny star points, then switch to a steadier marker for the thick constellation paths. Try a deep navy-to-violet background so the yellow constellation looks like it is quietly switching on.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the glass roof, Talia rolled a worn brass button between her fingers until it clicked against her claw. She needed one true north mark before the midnight caravan crossed the dark dunes below. The button had come from her father’s coat, plain and dented, but when she held it to her ear it made a tiny sea-shell hush.

She stepped off the warm observatory rail and followed a trail of cold sparks. Frost nipped her points. A paper-fold bear padded past, smelling of snow and old maps. “Trade?” it rumbled. Talia gave up one bright fleck from her left point, and the bear pressed its nose to the button. A hidden notch opened. Inside was not a needle, but a little song.

Talia carried the song back and hummed it into the highest star. Lines of light leaped from star to star, too joyful to stay in one place, and the caravan bells answered from far below. Next time you spot the dotted path beside the great star, keep Talia’s secret: north can begin with a button’s tiny hush.
