🎨 How to color it

Color the dancing ghost a soft moonlit blue, the jack-o’-lantern garlands bright orange, the balloons purple and lime, and the party hat striped teal and yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny pumpkin faces, confetti bits, and letter outlines, then switch to markers for the ghost’s wide robe and the larger balloons. Try making the background decorations warm and bright while leaving the ghost pale, so the happy face and raised hand pop from the party scene.

Under the lantern-room rafters, Sable tied paper pumpkins in a careful swoop and counted the soft taps of confetti landing on the floor. She wanted the room to give one tiny welcome whisper before the midnight party began, so she stood still, listening past the balloon squeaks, past the creak of the snack table, past the papery rustle of bats on the wall.

Nothing answered for a long while. The punch smelled like cinnamon and oranges. Stars dangled from strings and turned slowly in the warm air. Sable lifted one foot, then set it down without a sound, patient as dust in moonlight. “I can wait,” she said, very softly.

At last, the pumpkin garland shivered. Not from wind. From inside one grinning paper lantern, a hidden music box ticked awake: plink, plink, plink. Every balloon bobbed in time, and Sable’s quiet waiting became a dance. If you ever stand beneath paper pumpkins, listen for the soft taps of confetti landing on the floor.
