🎨 How to color it

Give Dad’s shirt a bright sky blue, the “SUPER DAD” shirt a sunny yellow, the soccer ball classic black and white, and the backyard fence a soft tan. Use sharpened colored pencils for the small shirt letters, flower centers, and goal net, then switch to broader strokes for the trees and grass. Try a gentle green-to-gold blend across the lawn so the rolling ball feels like it is crossing a warm afternoon patch.

Across the clipped grass, Amara tapped the soccer ball with the side of her sneaker, soft as a knock on a door. She wanted to send it into the little net before Dad reached the chalky white line by the flowers. Her brothers thundered behind her, laughing, and Dad jogged beside them with his lucky “number one” badge bouncing on his shirt. The yard smelled like warm leaves and sprinkler water.

The ball rolled slower near the goal. Not stuck, not lost—just slow, as if the afternoon had put a finger to its lips. Amara bent close and saw a silver trail shining on one black patch. A snail, no bigger than her thumb, rode the ball like a captain on a round, spinning planet.

“Wait,” Amara whispered. Everyone did. Dad crouched, her brothers leaned in, and the tiny traveler lifted two feelers toward the net. Amara gave the ball one careful nudge, barely a breath. It crossed the line with the snail still aboard, and the family cheered softly enough for leaves to hear. Next time you spot that ball by the goal, see if you can find the first brave captain of the clipped grass.
