🎨 How to color it

Color the ghost a pale lavender, the pumpkins harvest orange, the corn leaves deep green, and the falling maple leaves gold and rusty red. Use sharp colored pencils for the pumpkin ribs, corn rows, and tiny leaf veins, then fill the ghost’s smooth shape with light, even strokes. Try a sunset gradient behind the bare tree branches so the white ghost glows against warm autumn colors.

Between the corn rows, Cleo tucked a crooked twig beside a pumpkin and nudged a maple leaf into place. She had given herself a challenge before moonrise: build a swooping wind path from the big front pumpkin to the far hill, using only things the field had dropped. Dry leaves scratched softly over the dirt. Corn tassels whispered shhh-shhh above her head. “One more curve,” Cleo said, and spun so fast her sheet-tail made the vines tremble.

The path grew wild and wonderful. A red leaf marked a turn. A curled vine made a loop. Pebbles became tiny stepping stones, and pumpkin stems pointed like arrows. Cleo floated higher to check her work, proud all the way down to her wiggly hem. Then a gust rushed through the stalks, warm with the smell of husks and dirt, and every leaf she had placed lifted at once.

Instead of scattering, the leaves danced into a second path in the air, copying Cleo’s curves exactly. The cornfield had been watching her hands and learning the game. Cleo laughed, gathered the breeze in both palms, and led the Harvest Hop on two trails at once: one on the ground, one in the sky. Next time leaves swirl above a pumpkin patch, see if you can spot Cleo’s crooked twig starting the wind path.
