Every evening, Orin rolled the highland highway loop, counting the soft thump-thump of lane stripes and stopping before the city exit. He wanted to see the observatory dome beyond those hills, but the ramp curled away like a question he had never answered.
Until one windy dusk, a dry rattle came from beneath his seat. Because of that, Orin slowed beside the guardrail, where pine sap scented the cool air, and nudged out a folded paper nobody had checked: a map with one tiny star drawn past the city sign. Because of that, he took the exit, tires whispering over the curve, while the speed sign flashed silver in his mirror. “Just one turn,” he murmured.
At the top, the road opened to a sky pricked with first stars, and the observatory blinked awake like a secret lantern. Next time a dashboard rattles, would you dare peek under the seat before the road bends away?
