🎨 How to color it

Color the heart box ruby red, the wide ribbon pale pink, and the smiling chocolates in milk brown, strawberry cream, and vanilla yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny hearts, swirls, dots, and diamond dividers, working from the bow outward so your hand does not smudge the center. Try making each chocolate face sit in a slightly different wrapper color, like mint, lavender, or peach, so the open box feels like a secret candy sampler.

Behind the sugar-stamping door, a small candy-box keeper slid a faded pink ribbon into her pocket. Jovie wanted one thing before the bell rang: to open the sealed heart compartment where the first cocoa star was kept. The ribbon was not magic, probably. Still, it had tied her wrapper the day she arrived, and she never crossed the packing room without rubbing its soft, frayed edge.

The keyhole waited on the far table, past the clacking sprinkle sorter and the warm, dark smell of melting chocolate. Jovie stepped off her velvet square. A silver dragée popped under her shoe—ping!—and rolled away with her courage. She could have gone back. Instead, she whispered, “Don’t tell the taffy,” and traded one loop of her ribbon to a jam bonbon, who showed her a shortcut through the paper curls.

The ribbon fit, but only after Jovie tied it around the latch like a bow. Inside was no cocoa star. There were tiny blank cards for every sweet who had never been chosen first. Jovie tucked one under each smiling chocolate and carried the shorter ribbon home around her wrist. If you peek at the bow, can you spot where one brave loop went missing?
