Behind the tulip boxes, Pip the cottage kept a blue button under the front mat. Pip wanted to ring with the morning, not just squeak its little door. So, when the sun peeked over the clouds, Pip whispered, “Don’t tell the daisies,” and tip-tapped down the stone path to Mr. Wren’s tinkering stump.
The path was warm and bumpy. Pip traded the blue button for three tiny roof bells, but leaving it behind made the doorknob feel bare and cold. Then the bells chimed—ting, ting, ting! The tulips bobbed. The windows laughed. Even the pine trees leaned closer. Pip hurried home and rang for everybody, because some joy is too jingly to keep.
