🎨 How to color it

Color the house walls butter yellow, the shingled roof brick red, the shrubs leafy green, and the smiling sun a bright marigold. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big roof, lawn, and road shapes, and don’t worry if little hands wander past the lines. For a playful twist, make each cloud a different soft shade—pale blue, lavender, and peach—as if the sky is joining the joke.

All along Maplebutton Street, the sidewalk squares warmed Toby’s sneakers with little hushy taps. He had just invented Sun-Wink, a game where he could only step forward when the big sun smiled from between the clouds. The house smelled like cut grass and warm porch paint, and the front steps waited three squares away. Toby puffed his cheeks. First time all the way to the door by himself. “Wink if I’m allowed!” he whispered.

A cloud slid by like a sleepy sheep. The sun grinned. Step! Another cloud bobbed over the roof. Step! Then Toby heard a tiny snort from the shrubs. His little sister Pippa popped up, holding two round leaves over her eyes. “I’m the cloud inspector!” she giggled. Toby laughed so hard he stepped onto the porch without noticing. The sun, the shrubs, and the cloud inspector all seemed to wink at once—can you spot who else is playing Sun-Wink?
