Under a lemon-slice moon, Pip patted the fish badge he had cut from shiny cereal-box foil. Snip, tape, pat-pat! His red cape smelled like crayons and glue, and the little stars he stuck on it wiggled when he sat on the warm roof tiles.
A tiny window-washer snail slid up the chimney with a squeaky sponge. “Missed a spot,” she said, and dabbed one dot of silver soap on Pip’s badge. Suddenly the fish flashed moonlight onto every rooftop puddle, making wiggly pretend fish swim across the bricks. Pip puffed up so proudly his whiskers bounced.
