Every afternoon, Tilly dragged bark scraps to the craft hollow and tried to build a wind-scooper that could catch the wildest fall gust. Snip-snap went her twig shears; scratch-scratch went her pencil on birch paper. But the little spinner only wobbled, because it needed one round gear, and every acorn cap, button, and bottle top she tried flew off into the crunchy leaves.
Until one day, a pumpkin rolled into her work spot with a curly stem that clicked when the wind blew. Because of that, Tilly pressed her ear close and heard a tiny rattle inside, like seeds tap-dancing in a cup. Because of THAT, she carved carefully around the stem and found a hidden wooden gear tucked where nobody had thought to look.
“I can make it fit!” she shouted, hands sticky with pumpkin smell and pride. By sunset, her own wind-scooper whirred so fast the leaves spun in happy spirals. Next time you see her holding that pumpkin, can you spot the stem that started the whole whirring adventure?
