🎨 How to color it

Color the bear honey brown, the raincoat sunny yellow, the umbrella sky blue with golden stars and white cloud patches, and the puddles pale aqua. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny umbrella stars, raindrops, leaf tips, and pocket details, then switch to smoother strokes for the wide umbrella panels. Try making the umbrella brightest at the top, as if it is catching a secret bit of sunshine in the rain.

Every evening when rain tapped the mossy paths, Juniper carried a plain-looking umbrella to the rain garden and stood in the widest puddle. She wanted to hear the tiny music only its painted stars made: ping, shiver, hush, like silver beads rolling in a wooden bowl.

Until one day, the umbrella would not open for her alone. Its ribs trembled, and the stars stayed dark. Because of that, Juniper walked deeper among the dripping bushes, where frogs sat silent under slick leaves. Because of that, she heard no garden-song at all, only lonely plunks and the wet wool smell of her coat.

At last she whispered, “Come listen with me.” The frogs hopped close, beetles climbed stones, and even the shy snails lifted their horns. The umbrella bloomed wide, its stars glowing warm against the cool rain, and every drop rang like a bell big enough for everyone. Next time you spot those stars overhead, can you hear the ping, shiver, hush?
