Under the snuggly shelf, Brindle pressed his blanket to his nose and sniffed its warm, sleepy smell. He wanted one moonbeam to tuck beside his acorn cup, so the shelf would not look so dark. Secretly, very secretly, he stepped past the den rug into the blue-cold air.

Brindle hurried back, toes chilly but chest fizzy. His shelf glowed softly, and the blanket did too. If you spot the moon smiling, maybe it knows who borrowed just one moonbeam.
