🎨 How to color it

Color the panda’s patches soft charcoal, the bamboo stalks fresh green, the woven lantern honey gold, and the stepping stones warm gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the lantern’s crisscross panels and bamboo joints, then fill the panda’s larger fur areas with smooth, light layers. Try a pale mint glow around the lantern so the nearby leaves look like they are hiding a quiet secret.

Under the thick bamboo, Pip pressed both paws over his ears and listened for the hush-bell that usually ended the evening chatter. No ding came. Only leaf-swish, beetle-tick, and the hollow clack of stems in the wind. Without that bell, the little bamboo path would never settle. Pip stepped away from his mossy sitting stone, where everything smelled safely of damp grass, and followed a thin, cool glow between the stalks.

The path grew pebbly. A burr stuck in Pip’s foot, and a long bamboo leaf slapped his nose with rainwater. “Just one more bend,” he whispered. At the old woven lantern, the glow was not inside the glass at all. It shone from the top ring, where nobody ever looked. Tucked under the handle was a tiny silver bell, wrapped in spider silk.

Pip carried it back without ringing it yet. The bamboo seemed to lean close, waiting. When he reached his stone, he hung the bell on the lantern hook and tapped it once. Hushhhh-ding. The whole path breathed out, and Pip knew the quiet had not been missing; it had been waiting for him to bring it home. Next time you see that small ring above the lantern, can you keep its hushhhh-ding secret?
