🎨 How to color it

Color the bear’s fur honey brown, the spacesuit bright white with cherry-red and cobalt-blue patches, the ringed planet golden yellow, and the cratered moon pale gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny stars, suit badges, hose stripes, and moon craters, then switch to smooth marker fills for the helmet and larger suit panels. Try a soft lavender-to-navy background around the galaxy so the clear helmet bubble and waving paw stand out.

Through the warm hum of the capsule, Nico lined up ten oat crackers on the window ledge. “One star per cracker,” he whispered, tapping his pencil against his glove. He had made himself a small challenge: count ten quiet stars before sleep. But the window showed only a sleepy moon, a ringed planet, and a spiral of milky light too far away to count.

So Nico clipped on his silver tether and pushed outside. Space felt velvet-cold through his suit, and his air hose made a soft shoop-shoop at his side. He counted three stars, then five, then lost one behind the moon’s round cheek. Waiting made his paws ache. A cracker crumb floated from his pocket and spun away like a tiny comet.

Nico stayed still. At last, the spiral galaxy blinked in slow little flashes: six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Not stars—signals. Someone else was counting back. Nico waved with his whole paw and carried the quiet answer home; next time you see his raised glove among the stars, can you imagine the tenth blink answering?
