🎨 How to color it

Color the bear’s fur honey brown, the headband bright red, the jersey sky blue, and the soccer goal warm gray. Use chunky crayons or broad marker strokes for the big shirt, shorts, and open sky, saving a sharper crayon for the ball’s little panels. Try giving the ball alternating black-and-white patches while making the motion swooshes a pale yellow for extra kick.

Across the bumpy soccer field, Nico thump-thump-thumped in his cleats. He wanted to send one speedy kick straight into the little goal before the wind finished rattling the grass. His red headband tickled his ears, and the ball smelled like warm rubber in the sun.

He tapped it left, bounced it right, then swung his paw-foot with a whoosh. The ball zipped, the net puffed out, and a tiny silver whistle popped from the corner knot. Peep! A field mouse poked up from the grass. “That’s our halftime whistle!” she squeaked.

Nico laughed so hard his next kick went sideways, and the mice cheered anyway. Soon every kick ended with peep-peep music from the net. Next time you spot that little goal, can you guess which corner is hiding the whistling surprise while Nico thump-thump-thumps again?
