Under the soft hiss of fern leaves, Tavi tucked a small gray pebble into the pouch of his cape and hurried toward the sleepy valley stage. He wanted to send his faraway nest family one happy sound before moonrise, but the old signal gong had cracked in the afternoon heat. Only the pebble knew his family’s tune; when Tavi rubbed it, it hummed like warm rain on eggshells.
At the foot of the puffing volcano, the ground gave a gentle bump. A round boulder rolled from the path and stopped on Tavi’s pebble pouch. Tavi lifted the boulder with both claws, not to show strength, but to free that tiny hum. “Wait—listen,” he whispered.
The boulder rang back: bong, brum, bright! Every stone nearby answered, and the valley filled with Tavi’s joy until even the palm leaves trembled. Ever since, hero rocks make music when lifted with a sharing heart. Next time you spot Tavi’s little pebble, can you hear the bong, brum, bright?
