🎨 How to color it

Color the waffles golden brown, the syrup amber, the berries a mix of blueberry blue and raspberry red, and the mint leaves bright green. Use sharp colored pencils for the waffle pockets and berry circles, then switch to smooth marker strokes for the broad syrup ribbons. Try making the little pitcher pale cream with a cool blue shadow so the warm waffles look extra toasty.

Every morning before the bell, Bex carried the dented syrup pitcher around the Syrup Court and filled only the square wells that pointed east. The old pitcher gave a tiny clink when she was right, and Bex loved that sound more than the buttery steam, more than the berry carts squeaking by. Until one morning, the clink became a hiccup. The pitcher tugged left, then right, then nearly leaped from her hands.

Because of that, Bex chased it past the blueberry baskets and up the serving ladder, where the tallest waffle stack shivered like a sleepy accordion. Because of THAT, syrup began sliding down the sides in shiny ropes, spelling wiggly arrows that changed whenever Bex blinked. “Stop giving directions with breakfast!” she whispered, but her grin was already running ahead of her.

At the very top, beneath mint leaves and a blackberry crowd, she found the missing thing: a round syrup seal stamped with a tiny waffle map. Bex pressed it into the pitcher’s dent. Clink! The tower settled, the arrows became puddles, and every square well faced east again. Next time you spot the little pitcher beside the syrup ropes, check whether it looks ready to hiccup.
