Each night, Fenn tapped the same hollow branch—tock, tock, tock—and counted the pumpkins below until the moon climbed over the pumpkin grove. He wanted a game of his own, so he cut leaf tokens with his beak, smoothed them with his wings, and named it Pumpkin Wink. “If a pumpkin winks, drop a leaf!” he hooted. Until one night, the wind sneezed, whoof, and all his handmade tokens skittered into vines, clouds of dust, and pumpkin stems.
Because of that, the pumpkins began “winking” whenever a leaf landed on them. Because of THAT, Fenn laughed so hard he dropped the rule twig and invented a better one: every silly landing counted. He perched tall, proud as a candle flame, while leaves, stars, and pumpkin grins made the first scoreboard. Next time you spot those two jack-o’-lantern smiles under Fenn’s branch, can you guess which one just won Pumpkin Wink?
