Under the warm hill clouds, Tilly tapped her last plain egg. Tap, tap. She wanted one more painted egg before the flowers shut their faces for evening, but her blue dye cup was dry.
She left her soft grass nest and hopped past tall tulips, carrying the egg in both paws. A tiny chick with a daisy crown peeped from the reeds. “I know where colors sleep,” it said. Tilly followed through tickly grass, but a thorn scratched her ribbon and the egg nearly slipped. In a hollow stone, rainwater shone purple-blue.
Tilly dipped one paw, then painted three wavy lines and careful dots. The chick nodded as if reading a secret. Back by her nest, Tilly set down the egg and smiled at the bright marks she had made herself. Next time you see those three waves, can you spot the secret color puddle they came from?
