Under the blue window of Moonbutton Bakery, Bram tapped the counter twice and invented a game called Sprinkle Compass. He spun a paper straw, sniffed the warm vanilla air, and guessed where each topping wanted to point. The cherry pointed up, of course, toward the bell over the door. The banana curl seemed to point toward the soft hum of the ovens. “North is wherever dessert is thinking,” Bram whispered.
Then the two sugar stars began to glitter in the lamp glow, not like decorations, but like tiny signposts. Bram leaned close and noticed the cupcake wrapper had waves and dots, as if it were a map of a small sweet sea. Maybe the game was not about guessing at all. Maybe the cupcake had invented it first, waiting for someone curious enough to follow. Next time you see those stars, can you tell where the Sprinkle Compass points?
