🎨 How to color it

Color the helper’s cap cherry red, the window frames warm brown, the soap bucket bright blue, and the potted plant fresh green. The big window panes are perfect for light blue side-strokes, then leave a few white streaks to make them look shiny. Add a tiny rainbow glimmer where the squeegee has just cleared the soapy swirl.

The story behind this coloring page

From the cool kitchen floor, Arlo could hear the side-yard windows whisper, squeak-squeak, in the wind. He hugged Dad’s old squeegee, the one with the taped handle and one silver screw, and wanted to wash the highest pane before the sun slid past the roof. Outside, the soap smelled sharp and lemony. The ladder felt wobbly under his sneakers, and one cold bubble popped on his nose. “Hold still, ladder,” Arlo told it.

He wiped a wide, wet swoop. Under the gray streaks, a tiny star appeared in the glass, scratched there long ago beside the potted plant’s reflection. Arlo knew that star; Dad had drawn it on every moving box when they first came home. His sleeve was soaked, and his fingers were pruny, but the window shone like morning. Back inside, the kitchen did not feel too quiet anymore. If you peek at the clean pane, can you spot the little star that made Arlo belong, squeak-squeak?
