🎨 How to color it

Try spring green for the dragon, candy pink for the big heart, sunny yellow flower centers, and lavender petals. The heart’s swirls and tiny hearts are easy to color with a sharp crayon or colored pencil before filling the large middle space. Add a pale blue shadow inside the wings so the pink heart looks extra warm in the dragon’s arms.

Under the tickle-leaf bush, Quilla sniffed for one birthday bloom to carry home before supper. The air smelled like wet dirt and sweet petals, but every flower had closed its face. Then—bzzzz—something hummed behind the tall grass.

Quilla stepped out, toes squishing in mud. A paper heart stood between the daisies, covered in little marks that wiggled when she breathed on them. “Who wrote on you?” she whispered. The heart hummed louder, warm as a sunbeam. Quilla gave one shiny scale to a sleepy beetle, and he nudged the heart free.

Back at the bush, the heart opened all the closed flowers at once. Inside the biggest bloom was not a present, but a note: Follow your wonder. Next time you see Quilla’s muddy claws and smiling face, can you spot the heart that hummed?
