🎨 How to color it

Color the bicycle frame candy-apple red, the basket gift emerald green with a gold bow, the pine trees deep forest green, and the snowflakes pale blue. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big frame and wheels, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the spokes, string lights, and little bows. Try making every hanging bulb a different bright color so the garland looks ready to glow against the snowy hills.

Under the porch steps, Cora kept a tiny red bulb that went tink-tink when she shook it. She wanted to hang it on the lantern circle before the first snow song, because last winter her big cousin had whispered, “This one tells the lights when to wake.” So Cora tucked it in her coat, pushed her ribboned bicycle out from the dry shed, and rolled into the hush. Snow squeaked under her boots. The basket bow bobbed like it knew a secret.

Halfway through the spruce hollow, the bulb slipped out and bounced into powder. Cora had to trade one warm mitten for one icy dig. “Got you,” she breathed, fingers pink and prickly. But when she reached the circle, the bulb’s tink-tink made every child turn. They leaned close, laughing, and shook their own bells, spoons, and buttons too. The snow song grew so big it had to ride home with her. Next time you spot the little star on the seat, keep Cora’s tink-tink secret.
