🎨 How to color it

Color the sleepy mouse soft warm gray, the big oak-leaf hammock golden yellow, the acorn chestnut brown, and the spotted mushroom red. Use chunky crayons or markers for the large leaf shapes, and don’t worry if little hands color over the thick outlines. Try making the plaid pillow two alternating colors, like pumpkin orange and sky blue, so it peeks out cheerfully under the mouse’s paws.

Every evening, under the twisty vine bower, Pell played his new Slow Swing Game. He curled in the oak-leaf hammock, breathed in the damp acorn smell, and waited for one berry to fall without making the hammock sway.

Until one day, no berry dropped. Because of that, Pell waited through three creaks of the vine. Because of that, he heard a tiny plip, then another, like rain with round feet. “Your turn,” Pell whispered.

At last, the berries rolled down the vine and tucked beside him, shiny and cool. Pell did not grab them. He let the hammock rock once, slow as a sleepy smile; can you spot the quiet prizes that found Pell while he waited?
