🎨 How to color it

Color the cupcake frosting strawberry pink, the donut glaze chocolate brown, the ice cream scoops vanilla cream, and the candy jars in lemon yellow, mint green, and berry red. Use sharp colored pencils for the waffle cone’s crisscross lines, the tiny sprinkles, and the small framed treats on the wall. Try making the two cherries glossy crimson while keeping the striped awning pale blue so the desserts pop forward.

Behind the striped awning, Trixie balanced her cherry and listened to the candy jars tick, tick, tick in the cool morning light. She wanted to know which jar was tapping without lifting any lids. The jelly beans smelled like fruit punch, the lollipops clicked their sticks, and the tile counter felt chilly under her paper wrapper.

“Tap once if you’re lemon,” Trixie whispered. Tap-tap-tap came the answer, much too silly for lemon. A donut rolled forward, glaze shining, and copied every sound with its hollow middle: tick became tock, plink became plonk, and Trixie’s tiny gasp became a giant whoooop. Curiosity ran right out of her like spilled sprinkles.

Then the tallest ice cream cone leaned close and blinked its cherry. “That wasn’t a jar,” it said. “It was me practicing my drum solo with a waffle cone.” The donut echoed, “Cone! Cone! Cone!” until even the framed cupcake on the wall seemed to grin.

So Trixie tapped a frosting beat, the donut boomed through its hole, and the cone rattled its waffle squares like a tiny bandstand. Next time you spot the candy jars under the striped awning, listen for the cool little tick, tick, tick.
