🎨 How to color it

Color the octopus coral pink, the striped party hat turquoise and lemon yellow, the cupcake wrapper violet, and the bubbles pale blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny confetti pieces, suction cups, sprinkles, and candle stripes so the small shapes stay crisp. Try making the candle flame golden at the center and orange at the edge, like a secret little glow in the water.

Behind the bubble parlor, Quin kept a stubby striped candle tucked in a scallop box. It was not fancy, not even straight, but it had stood on his first sponge-cake, and he wanted it to shine one more time for the midnight nibble party. The trouble was, underwater candles need a flame-shell, and the only one nearby blinked inside the slowest snail’s window.

So Quin slipped out past fizzing bubbles and sleepy starfish. He carried the cupcake carefully, frosting cool against one tentacle, while confetti from the parlor door tickled his cheeks. “Wait for me,” he whispered to the candle, though candles are excellent at that. The snail counted out one shell, then two, then polished a third before choosing the smallest, warm as a sunbeam.

By the time Quin returned, the party had gone quiet. Then the flame-shell kissed the wick, and the little candle glowed brighter than all the bubbles. Secretly, that is why Quin is smiling so wide—can you spot the stubby striped candle that waited?
