🎨 How to color it

Color the crab bright coral orange, the treasure chest warm brown with brass bands, and the swaying seaweed in two ocean greens. Use sharp colored pencils for the chest planks, rivets, lock, and tiny bubbles, then switch to broader strokes for the crab’s shell and claws. Try making the raised claw a little brighter at the tip, as if it is catching a mischievous flash of underwater sunlight.

Between two waving forests of sea grass, Dexter practiced his grandest greeting beside an old chest in the sunken market lane. He lifted one claw high, wiggled his eye stalks, and clicked, clack-clack, until three silver fish stopped to watch. The chest smelled of salty wood and sleepy coins, though no one in the lane had ever seen it open.

Dexter added bubbles for style. Pop, pop, pop! He leaned on the latch and announced, “Behold, the famous chest of extremely important secrets!” The fish circled closer, their tails flicking bright little flashes through the green water. Even the coral seemed to be listening.

Then the padlock coughed. “Ahem. Your claw is blocking my good side.” Dexter froze, then slowly turned the lock so its keyhole faced the audience. With a tiny metallic giggle, the padlock clicked itself open—not to show gold, but a puff of tickly bubbles shaped like mustaches.

Soon every fish wore a bubble mustache, and Dexter bowed like he had planned it all along. If you peek back at the raised claw, you may catch the exact moment Dexter knew he belonged in the silliest market lane under the sea.
