🎨 How to color it

Layer burnt sienna and deep coral over the crab’s broad shell, use slate blue on the segmented legs, and touch the raised claws with pale ivory highlights. Because the shell is packed with curved hatch marks and tiny stippled dots, use sharp colored pencils and build color in light passes around each etched groove. For a lively twist, make the two large claws slightly warmer than the legs, as if they have just snapped through a flash of sunlit water.

The story behind this coloring page

Bastian Starts the Clawlight Race — Every dusk, Bastian tapped the basalt ledge alone, chasing tiny glints between his claws before the tide swallowed them. Read the full story →

Every dusk, Bastian tapped the basalt ledge alone, chasing tiny glints between his claws before the tide swallowed them. Then he invented Clawlight: snap, flash, scuttle—whoever caught the last gold spark named the next path. Because he leapt first, shrimp burst from the cracks like thrown silver; because they followed, urchins rolled aside and the whole ledge rang with clicking feet. At last Bastian raised both claws, not to finish, but to start everyone together, and joy raced farther than the tide could swallow.
