🎨 How to color it

Try burnished gold on the eagle’s chest feathers, deep bronze along the wing bands, teal shadows on the stepped city towers, and pearl gray for the small clouds. Use sharp pencils and color from the center outward, because the feather scales, chevrons, and narrow sunbeams reward clean edges and light layering. For a dramatic twist, blend the sunburst from pale lemon near the half-sun to copper at the ray tips, leaving the eagle’s mask bright and severe.

The story behind this coloring page

The Ticket Under Daybreak — At three minutes before sunrise, Orson tapped the silver ticket against his clock-niche and heard the tiny click no one else admitted hearing. Read the full story →

At three minutes before sunrise, Orson tapped the silver ticket against his clock-niche and heard the tiny click no one else admitted hearing. He wanted only to know where the ticket led; simple enough, except the passage opened beyond the warm brass gears, past the wind that smelled of rain on stone. He stepped out. The city’s towers stood like folded knives, and every sunbeam on the pavement seemed to point somewhere on purpose. Halfway across the high arcade, a gust stole one tail feather and sent it spinning into the clouds. Orson let it go, because the ticket had begun to hum.

At the dawn platform, the ticket did not open a door. It slid into a crack beneath the first ray, and the whole skyline answered with a low golden chord. Lines of light ran over roofs, cornices, and cloud edges, sketching a route no mapmaker had dared ink: not out of the city, but through its hidden bright places. Orson came back without the feather and with the secret folded behind his eyes. At three minutes before sunrise the next morning, he tapped the empty air where the ticket had been and heard the tiny click.
