🎨 How to color it

Color the dinosaur costume leaf green, the pumpkin candy bag bright orange, and the porch jack-o'-lanterns in golden yellow with brown stems. Use sharp colored pencils for the costume’s small claws, spots, teeth, and tail spikes, then switch to broader strokes for the wooden porch boards. Try giving each carved pumpkin a different glow, from lemon yellow to deep tangerine, so the doorway feels warm behind the green dinosaur.

The story behind this coloring page

The First Porch Stomp — All down Lantern Lane, the porches creaked for people they already knew. Read the full story →

All down Lantern Lane, the porches creaked for people they already knew. Bram had just moved there, and he wanted one door to open before his candy bag stopped smelling like paper and peppermint. He tugged his dinosaur hood low, stepped between pumpkin grins, and raised his fist to knock.

But a voice under his foot whispered, “Not that way.” Bram froze. The porch plank felt warm through his costume toes, as if it had been sitting in moonlight all day. “Doors sleep lightly here,” the plank said. “They do not wake for tapping. They wake for belonging.”

So Bram did the only thing a dinosaur on a secret porch could do. He stomped—thump!—then swung his tail—swish!—then stomped again. Every jack-o’-lantern blinked brighter, the door flew open, and someone laughed, “There you are!” Ever since, Halloween porches listen for little feet making brave, silly thunder; and if you spot Bram mid-stomp, check whether the pumpkins are grinning because they heard it first.
