🎨 How to color it

Color the dolphin a smooth blue-gray, the curling waves turquoise and seafoam, the striped lighthouse red and white, and the starfish sandy orange. Use sharp colored pencils for the many wave lines, following each curve from the foam outward so the water keeps its rolling shape. Try a golden sunset glow behind the clouds, then add darker teal shadows under the dolphin’s splash.

At low tide, Corin stood by the flat stones where the beach grass tickled his ankles and set himself a challenge: count twelve quiet waves without saying a word. The ocean hissed and folded, silver lines sliding over sand, while the lighthouse blinked across the bay. One wave curled like a ribbon. Two brought the salty smell of kelp. By seven, Corin’s toes felt brave enough to stay in the cold water.

Then the sea made a soft puffing sound. A dolphin rose from the ninth wave, not rushing, not showing off, just arcing through the sunlit spray as if it had been listening all along. Its splash tapped the water once, twice, three times.

Corin grinned but kept his promise of silence. He counted the taps with his fingers, and the dolphin answered with another bright leap, turning his little challenge into a shared game. Next time you see the starfish by the stones, can you find the place where Corin counted twelve quiet waves?
