🎨 How to color it

Color the astronaut’s suit bright white with cobalt blue shadows, the star flag red and gold, the rocky planet dusty lavender, and the craters soft gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the suit panels, backpack tubes, flag stripes, and tiny constellation stars, then switch to broader strokes on the open hills and crater floors. Try a deep navy-to-purple sky behind the crescent moon so the gold stars and the planted flag feel proudly handmade and bright.

Every evening, Riven shaped spare foil, wire, and cloth scraps into small things for the survey camp: a cup hook, a patch, a crooked little wind chime that rang ting-ting in the air pumps. More than anything, he wanted to make a signal flag sturdy enough to stand on the ridge, but the dust kept swallowing his pole, and the silent craters gave no help.

Until one day, his drill struck something that answered with a warm, bell-like hum. Because of that, Riven chipped carefully through the powdery stone and found a narrow slot hidden inside the crater rim, exactly flagpole-wide. Because of that, he noticed old hand marks pressed in the rock—someone long ago had carved the place for a maker yet to come.

His gloves shook as he slid in his wobbly flag. “I made this,” he whispered, and the pole held. The cloth snapped once in the starlight, ting-ting, like his camp chime. If you follow the flagpole down to the cracked ground, you might find where the hidden slot kept Riven’s handmade horizon standing.
