Every day after lunch, Nico the pear practiced tiny hops between the apples, trying to touch the bright rim of the windowsill bowl before the kitchen clock clicked twice. He called his new game Bowl-Bounce Derby: no hands, no rolling over stems, and bonus points for landing without wobbling. The apples cheered with crisp little taps, and the bananas made a curved yellow gate.
Until one day, a gust shoved through the open window with a leafy whoosh. Because of that, the bowl rocked, and Nico bounced sideways into the banana gate. Because of THAT, the gate bent like a slingshot and flung him toward the highest apple, where the rim shone warm as toast. “Hold your stems!” Nico shouted, laughing as the whole bowl tipped into motion.
Finally, Nico planted his pear-bottom against the apple, hooked his leaf around a banana stem, and made a new rule: when the wind joins the Derby, everybody races together. The bowl settled with a soft clink. Outside, the tree leaves clapped, and inside, Nico touched the rim at last—exactly where he belonged. Next time you spot the pear near the window, check whether he looks ready for one more bright rim bounce.
