🎨 How to color it

Try a golden-brown donut, strawberry-pink glaze, a pale blue plate, and leave the oval shine marks crisp white. Use colored pencils to shade around the curved icing drips, pressing lighter near the top of each drip and darker underneath the donut’s edge. Add a gentle pink-to-coral blend across the glaze so the donut looks glossy enough to catch the bakery lights.

The story behind this coloring page

Past the gulls and salt-spray flags, Zella balanced the parade donut on a wide tin plate and hurried along the seaside pier. The glaze smelled like warm berries and sugar, and every step made the plate sing, ting-ting-ting, against her fingertips. She wanted to reach the brass bell before the noon boats arrived, because the first ring meant everyone could start sharing treats along the boardwalk.

The pier grew brighter as she ran. Fiddlers tuned by the lemonade stand; kites snapped overhead; the donut’s shiny glaze flashed in the sun like a small pink planet. When Zella paused to catch her breath, a tiny voice called from the donut hole, “Excellent echo in here!” Out popped a speckled echo-crab wearing a bubble of sea foam like a helmet.

Zella laughed so hard the plate chimed. The crab clicked twice, and the donut hole answered with a perfect bell sound: bong! So Zella carried both donut and crab to the brass bell, where his little echoes made every ring double, then triple, until the whole pier cheered and passed slices from hand to hand. Next time you spot that bright ring of glaze, listen closely for Zella’s ting-ting-ting.
