🎨 How to color it

Give the cat mermaid pearl-white fur, a teal tail with lavender fins, the giant shell a soft peach, and the coral a mix of rose and sea green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny tail scales, starfish, bubbles, and shell stripes, then fill the larger shell panels with smooth, even strokes. Try a pale aqua-to-deep-blue background gradient so the white whiskers, shiny eyes, and waving paw feel extra bright.

Past the tickle-grass coral, Kiri pressed her ear to every shell, hunting for one lullaby pearl to calm the restless nursery cave. The water smelled salty-sweet, and silver fish clicked by like tiny spoons. Her favorite cushion-shell was warm behind her, but she swam out anyway, carrying a ribbon of kelp for trading.

A great scallop sat half-open on the coral shelf, sighing bubbles. “Please wait,” it murmured, though Kiri’s tail already twitched toward the brighter shells. She waited. Sand prickled her paws. A shy seahorse drifted from the scallop’s shadow with a cracked pearl no shop would take.

Kiri wrapped it in her kelp ribbon and hummed into the crack. The pearl answered with a soft purr-song, warmer than any perfect treasure. Back in the nursery cave, even the bubbles seemed to blink slowly; and if you find Kiri’s raised paw among the bubbles, you may hear the first note from past the tickle-grass coral.
