Under the umbrella’s stripey shade, Pip kept a tiny moon shell tucked beside his cone. It made a hush-hush sound when he held it close. One warm gust went whoosh, and the shell rolled toward the wet sand.
Pip scooted after it, bump-bump, past two surfboards and a sleepy starfish. The tide slid in with a foamy whisper. “Please wait,” said a small crab, tapping one claw. Pip waited while his sprinkles got sticky and the sun warmed his cheeks.
At last, the wave curled back and left not one shell, but three: his moon shell, plus two shiny friends. Next time you spot the shells by Pip’s sandy spot, listen for the hush-hush secret.
