Under Shell Meadow, Pippa followed a tickle of sound. Plip, plip, hush. She wanted to catch the quietest noise in the sea, but the bubbles kept popping and the little fish kept flicking their tails.
At last, Pippa climbed into Grand Clam, where no one ever peeked because it only opened at moon-nap time. Inside, under the soft purple lid, she found a tiny silver echo curled like a baby snail. “You were hiding here!” she whispered. The echo snuggled into every shell nearby. Ever since then, seashells hold whispers, and if you look at Pippa’s clamshell, can you guess where the first hush is hiding?
