Behind the Sweet Cafe counter, after the spoons stopped clink-clink-clinking, Bixby the sundae waited for the bell garland to sing. He wanted just one tiny chime before the lights went out. But the room stayed still, smelling of sugar and warm waffle cones.

Then someone whispered from inside his striped wafer straw. “Psst. Wait for the last drip.” Bixby held very still while a slow caramel drop slid down, soft and sticky. Plop! The bell garland chimed, and the sound bounced onto his cup in little music notes. Ever since, sundaes wear songs for patient listeners. If you spot Bixby’s notes, keep the secret: they started with that one plop.
