🎨 How to color it

Color the pilot’s cap caramel brown, the goggles sky blue, the scarf cherry red, and the cockpit buttons in teal, orange, and silver. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny dashboard switches and goggle shine marks, then fill the wide window clouds with smooth, light strokes. Try a sunrise fade behind the windows, shifting from pale yellow near the sun to soft blue around the clouds.

Above the silver dashboard, Zara tapped three teal buttons and set herself a skywide challenge: wave to every cloud shape before the sun climbed over the window bar. The cockpit smelled faintly of warm rubber and orange peel from her pocket snack. “Ready, hands?” she whispered, and her red scarf flipped like it had shouted yes.

First came a cloud shaped like a pancake, then a whisker, then a whale with a lumpy tail. Zara waved left, right, high, low, counting each one in the hum of the engine. Her goggles flashed with stripes of light. The more she waved, the bigger the joy felt, too bouncy to stay inside one cockpit.

Then the whale-cloud opened a tiny round hole, and through it Zara saw another airplane far away. Its pilot was waving, too. Beyond that, a balloon basket wiggled a handkerchief; below, a ferry on a river blinked its deck lights twice. Zara laughed so hard her scarf fluttered against the seat. Her little challenge had become a hello chain across the whole morning sky. Next time you spot her raised hand between the cockpit windows, see if you can guess which cloud is carrying the wave next.
