High above the cloud lanes, Pip tucked a crinkly gold paper wing beside his window and carried one red ribbon for Auntie Star’s birthday. The wind hummed mmm-mmm, and the clouds smelled like cool rain. Pip wanted the ribbon to arrive bright and dry, but a gray mist rolled in and hid every path.
“Share my color?” Pip asked the clouds softly. He tied the red ribbon to his tail. Then he added orange from a sunbeam, yellow from his gold wing, green from a leaf stuck on his wheel, and blue from the rain. The sky opened wide with joy. Ever since, when little airplanes feel too happy to keep it all inside, they pull colors across the clouds for everyone to see.
