Every day before sunrise, Rafi guided his silver survey jet above the Snowglass Range and listened through the hiss of his headset for one clear ping from a buried weather bell. The mountains answered with wind, ice-cracks, and the soft drum of clouds sliding over the peaks. He marked each quiet flight in a notebook, then turned home with cold fingers and no complaint.
Until one day, a white-winged glider rose from a canyon with no engine sound at all. Because of that, Rafi slowed and followed its patient circles instead of racing his route. Because of that, he noticed the glider always tilted when the wind hummed through one narrow pass. “Show me again,” Rafi whispered.
At last, the hidden bell rang beneath the pass, thin and bright as a spoon tapped on glass. Rafi sent its location to the mountain station, and the glider vanished into a ribbon of cloud. When you find the jet above the peaks, see if the wind streaks still seem to be listening for that one clear ping.
