🎨 How to color it

Color the turkey’s tail feathers in pumpkin orange, cranberry red, golden yellow, and cocoa brown, with a teal-and-cream striped scarf, a bright orange pumpkin, and green corn leaves tied by a red bow. Use sharp colored pencils for the scarf stripes, corn kernels, and tiny “THANKFUL” tag, then switch to markers for the big round belly and tail sections. Try giving each tail feather a darker outer edge so the turkey looks extra fluffy against the harvest bundle.

Every afternoon, Zadie zoomed through the harvest shed, tapping her scarf tag against one basket, one broom, and one corn crate before supper. The tag said THANKFUL in wobbly letters, and she had just invented a game called Thankful Dash: touch something, shout its best part, and run before the echo caught you. “Pumpkin curls! Corn silk! Warm scarf!” she called, while dry leaves skittered like tiny paper boats under her feet.

Until one day, her shout bounced off the rafters and came back with three new voices. Because of that, the field mice popped from the straw and demanded turns. Because of THAT, the crows flapped in through the high window, dropping shiny kernels for game markers, and the whole shed thundered with feet, wings, squeaks, and caws. Zadie’s joy felt too big for her chest, so she tied the corn bundle with the brightest ribbon and made it the finish line.

Finally, everyone dashed once around the pumpkin, tapped Zadie’s tag, and shouted one thing they could not keep to themselves. The shed smelled of husks and cinnamon dust as laughter rose to the rafters. Next time you spot that little THANKFUL tag, can you guess which shout was still echoing after Zadie’s last warm-scarf lap?
