Every day, Fenn polished his plain brass button and kept it tucked under the hot air balloon’s cushion. It was from his very first ride, when his knees went wobble-wobble and the burner went whoof! He only touched it for luck, never for steering.
Until one day, the Cloud Parade sneezed confetti wind. The balloon bumped sideways, the star flags flapped wildly, and Fenn’s snack crackers flew like tiny moons. Because of that, he had to lean over the basket. Because of THAT, he saw the button glowing under his hoof.
