Under the rafters of the old school greenhouse, Juno twisted willow strips into a horn-shaped basket. It smelled like damp earth, apple skins, and the cinnamon glue she had spilled on her sleeve. She tucked in squash, corn, grapes, and leaves until the whole thing leaned like it had eaten too much dinner.
“Not bad for two hands and one sticky elbow,” she said, tying on a tiny tag that read Grateful. The ribbon flicked. The tag cleared its papery throat. “Excuse me,” it squeaked, “I am grateful for the engineer, the grape stacker, and the pumpkin wrangler.”
Juno blinked, then laughed so hard a wheat stem tickled her nose. She gave the tag a little bow, and it swung proudly beside her wobbly masterpiece. If you spot that tiny tag, don’t be surprised if it’s still bragging about the two hands that made the feast.
