🎨 How to color it

Color the owl’s body chestnut brown, its face patches creamy tan, the maple leaves pumpkin orange and cranberry red, and the branch warm bark brown. The owl has big open shapes that are perfect for chunky crayons, while the leaf points and little stars are easiest if you turn the page as you color. Try making the dots around the owl golden, like tiny clues glowing in the autumn air.

From inside the cozy tree hollow, a tiny owl tucked one feather under a pebble and whispered, “Seven gold dots before moonrise.” Orla had made the challenge herself: count every quiet light that appeared in the maple grove. The air smelled like dry leaves and cool bark. She hopped out to the long branch, where leaves scraped softly, shh-shh, around her toes. One dot blinked near a red leaf. Another glimmered by a curled twig. Then the wind puffed, and Orla lost her place.

She sat very still, even when a leaf tapped her head like a little hand. Waiting felt prickly. At last, the dots did not move at all—they made a tiny arrow toward the smallest leaf overhead. Orla leaned close and found a silver moth sleeping beneath it, safe from the chilly wind. She had not counted seven; she had found a secret keeper of six. When you see the dots around Orla, can you wait long enough to spot the quiet light?
