🎨 How to color it

Try chestnut brown for the pinecone scales, golden tan for the acorn caps, and rusty orange for the big oak leaf. For toddlers, use chunky crayons and let them fill the pinecone’s big scale shapes any way their hands want to go. Add a secret pop of red to one tiny leaf near the twigs, like fall hid a little surprise there.

The story behind this coloring page

Nico’s Pocket Acorn — Under the pine roots, Nico patted his smooth acorn. Tap-tap. Read the full story →

Under the pine roots, Nico patted his smooth acorn. Tap-tap. Its cap was gone! He tucked it close and whispered, “Come on.”

Out he went over crunchy leaves, past poky twigs, sniff-sniffing cold pine smell. Ouch! A burr tickled his toe, but Nico kept going.

Beside the tall pinecone, two acorns waited. One cap fit—click! Nico carried his acorn home, round and whole. Secret? His nook felt even snugger now. Can you spot the pinecone that watched him come back?
