Warm air hummed inside the hangar, and Vero wanted one perfect round of his new game: cloud-hop, sun-ray, bird-curve, home. He lifted into the morning with a whup-whup-whup, following each puffy cloud like a stepping-stone above the cold peaks. At the third cloud, a silver button on his radio blinked. No voice came, only a soft crackle, like dry leaves. Vero waited, blades turning slow. Waiting made his skids shiver in the thin air.
Then the crackle became one small beep from a weather beacon tucked between the mountains. “There you are,” Vero whispered. He gave up the next cloud-hop and circled once, patient and smooth, until the beacon sent a clear green flash. Back at the hangar, his game had a new last step: listen. Next time you see the birds near his rotor, can you tell which cloud he was about to hop to?
